Can Wii Game Consoles Improve Family Fitness?
By NintendoCom
Wii game consoles, the popular gaming system, not just combines fun and exercise, but also holds benefits on improving family fitness. How come?
A team of University of Mississippi researchers are conducting a study to assess whether Nintendo Wii Fit video game, an exercise game consisting of activities using the Wii Balance Board, can help improve overall family fitness.
During that time, each family is evaluated through a number of different fitness measurements, including aerobic fitness, balance, physical activity and body composition. In addition, each family’s fitness before the study was measured through the use of a device that charted the families’ movement and physical activity over a period of five days.
Wii Fit is also a good screening tool for adults because it measures players’ body mass index (BMI), a weight evaluation based on height and weight. Given that a player could categorize himself as being overweight or obese, he should seek more information from a health professional who could better evaluate the level of body fat.
Nintendo Wii Fit which incorporates yoga, strength training, balance and aerobics may be utilized as a promising tool to promote physical activities for people of all ages. As a matter of fact, the Wii game consoles fitness or sports bundle could improve family fitness, but it would require coordination and discipline to encourage everyone to participate.
